We were out scouting for the Knox County Christmas Bird Count that we are doing tomorrow. Found some nice birds to add to the count "if" we can find them again tomorrow. The weather gods seem to be smiling on us so far. It is supposed to be a good day tomorrow too.
As we were about to come home we saw a couple of planets that we don't normally see on the horizon. The little bit brighter spot just to the right of the tree is Jupiter and the other is Mercury. Of course Venus being the brightest was over out of photo area.
Here I zoomed in as close as I could. Now can you see them?? It was really good if you were there. For more and not doubt better skywatch photos go to Sky Watch Friday.
I can see them! The sky is always better in person, I think, even though I love taking pics and seeing others'.
ReplyDeleteLarry and I took our dog to an area lake today, and I did not see a single bird in a tree to take a picture of. I saw a few flying, but wasn't fast enough to get their pics. I tried to get the reflection of the sun off the ice, but ended up with those extra circles/glares.
Glad you had a good day, Lisa. It was gloomy and cold here. I've been seeing Jupiter for a few nights and am so pleased that I could actually tell it.
ReplyDeleteHope your bird count goes great for you.
Yes! I can see them!
ReplyDeleteHave a great birdy time tomorrow, Lisa. I wish you great weather.
Mary
I did see them Lisa! Here in Nashville the sky has been that perfect winter clear that shows off all the stars and planets so well. Isn't the winter sky lovely?
ReplyDeleteI know we are going to see some good bird shots after you've participated in the count! Yippee! gail
Gorgeous skies!
ReplyDeleteI love it......I could see them.....aren't the planets just so amazing when they are bright......I saw a crescent moon and venus the other night, my heart nearly stopped beating it was so beautiful......
ReplyDeleteGot your card yesterday.....lovely Luna....little Poppi will love it......she loes animals, especially white.....
Thank you Lisa and for your sweet message....
Good luck with your bird count........
Wow, Lisa! The maroon in these is amazing. Just beautiful. God bless.
ReplyDeleteGorgeous sunset pic. It makes me want to head inside, start a fire in the fireplace, and drink something warm. We saw Jupiter the other night, seeming to stalk the moon, before both were chased out of the southern sky by Orion. For amateur astronomers, we observe that the best nighttime skies are in the coldest months of the year. Brrrr.
ReplyDeleteoh no, this is perfect timing. i always forget you have two blogs, will remember them both this year. xx
ReplyDeleteHi Lisa, I did see them! Thanks. Our local weatherman had said to look for them, but they were so low in the horizon and we have tall trees and hills all around us and can't see anything low like that. Seeing the sun again here would be nice too, it has been gray and rainy for several days, but we still need all the rain we can get so no complaints. I just miss the sun!
ReplyDeleteFrances
I do see them! I have been enjoying Venus and the moon too.
ReplyDeleteHope you were able to get more birds counted.
I never mind cold just cold and wind!
Sherry

Such beautiful shades of red in your sunset photo.
ReplyDeleteYour weather sure is warm there. What beautiful photographs. I'm especially taken with the second one because of the lights twinkling. I hope the bird count went very well.
