Hyacinth Blooms

I was so pleased when the first of the bulbs started to bloom. They are pink not the apricot that the photo on the package suggested. I don't mind because they smell good and look beautiful.
Look beautiful that is until... Like Tim Conway on Laugh In... it started to tip over.
Timber!  Obviously the shape of this vase is not such to keep the heavy head upright. It still smells good. What is a person to do??  I will just have to prop it onto the window I guess.
Are your bulbs blooming? Do you have such trouble?

  1. That is too cute! So pretty and I'm sure the smell is heavenly - leaning against a window might help :)

  4. Timber! I had to laugh. I am still waiting for two amaryllis bulbs to bloom. There is some foliage but no signs of flowers yet. It's a long winter....

  5. Awww, I'm sorry, but I too had to have a bit of a giggle over your toppled plant. I haven't had one go over quite that much, but the hyacinth glasses I have are rather larger in the bowl, so the bulb is well set down. I'm sure it smells divine, even if somewhat askew.

  6. Blooms? BLOOMS? You think we might have blooms? All we have is snow and the light ... still too low ... even for inside possibilities. Give us a couple of months.

  7. So cute. Looks lovely. Hope you can prop it up with something.

  8. Mine is taking forever to bloom. There are roots and little green nubs on top. It's in a glass vase like yours. I'll have to watch to see if it does the same thing. My other ones are planted in dirt and having started the growing process..

  9. Beautiful, but I think the hyacinth is trying to escape.

  10. What a beautiful color!!! Should be called 'Perfect Pink'! This tipping over is a real problem that doesn't seem to have much of an answer...hmmmmm. I have never grown bulbs, so I am at a loss to help!!!

  11. Oh, is there anything more lovely than their scent in the cold of winter? Heck, I'd just prop it up too!

  12. LOL!

When I worked for a florist, we always had to stake the Hyacinth!

    Thanks for the smiles ;-)

  13. That's too funny, Lisa:) Your hyacinth reminds me of the amaryllis I had last year whose stem broke. I wound up tieing it to the shelf where it stood. But at least your hyacinths and amaryllis are blooming--mine show no signs of growth yet. I bet your house smells wonderful.

  14. oh dear, nothing worse then a misbehaving hyacinth. Funnily enough I bought 3 blue hyacinths this weekend. I don't normally grow them but after being given some paperwite narcissus I'm getting an urge to fill the house with fragrant bulbs - must be spring

  15. Lisa, Love the Tim Conway reference. I had this trouble with an amaryllis plant~The container was too shallow and couldn't take the top heavy weight! I like the pink. gail

  16. I gave up growing bulbs in water, for that very reason. So they are outside, in containers, starting to appear, and very far from blooming yet.
I can smell yours from here.

  17. Lisa, ha, so funny. I have it's twin living with me, it is the same colour as well. Isn't it just so frustrating. The perfume is nice though, isn't it?

  18. I find that apricot foxgloves are usually more of a pink as well. I think apricot is not a common flower color and they just sucker us in with those pictures. The pink is certainly pretty though.

  19. Lol Lisa, perhaps this bulb was trying to prove something to the world... by changing colour and trying to escape. Pretty though. I love the scent of Hyacinth.

  20. Oh, that scent must be heavenly.

Well it surely looks like a perfect Valentine display in the pretty red vase. Propping helped I hope.

I don't do bulbs 'indoors' but know yours are a welcomed treat with everything being so bleak outdoors.

  21. It's a beautiful bloom, toppled or not. I wish I had one just like it.
Thanks for the smile, Lisa :)

I hope this latest storm doesn't dump too much snow on you. Our weather people are not quite sure how much snow to predict for us. We'll just have to wait and see...

  22. Poor hyacinth. but the fragrance is wonderful. My miniature daffodils have just started to bloom

  23. I could be doing with a dose of hyacinth perfume about now, Lisa! Hope you're doing OK in the storm.

  24. I've never had bulbs indoors, but I would either call a nursery for advice, or just do as you mentioned and prop it up.

  25. I can imagine the wonderful fragrance in your house. Got a little top heavy I guess:)

I never start bulbs inside and always wonder why. A little trouble but so worth it.

Nice to be visiting old friends again.

  26. Sometimes I use a chop stick to lend some support!
I have been forcing my bulbs in soil this year. Less trouble.
My hyacinths are filling my house with the smell of spring too....
6 more weeks at my house...
    Stay safe and warm,

  28. This was too cute Lisa girl : ) I had to laugh at the Tim Conway comment .. I remember when that crew used to break up laughing during a skit and they could barely finish what they had to get through ! I haven't forced bulbs in a long time .. the guys here sneeze way too much for the girls (cats) and I ? LOL

  29. I think it had a little too much vodka...or maybe not enough. No matter, though, it smells divine.

  30. I almost always have that trouble. If you ever figure out how to keep the little things upright, please enlighten me.

Thanks for your kind words about my little story.~~Dee

  31. That's so funny, Lisa! And look at those ROOTS! I'll bet you figured something out! It's really a pretty shade of pink. I've got some bulbs that I didn't get in the ground last fall. I want to still do it, which I know will delay their bloom, but that's okay. Some are tulips, so I could do some forcing, I guess!

  32. The one wanting to fall over is funny. Fun to have fresh blooms in the home.

  33. That hyacinth had some healthy roots! They do smell wonderful. I just threw out the last of my paperwhites, I did not get a hyacinth this year........will have to watch WalMart always has some to buy this time of year.

  34. Wow! So so pretty!
I am speechless....love the pink here!

  35. I love hyacinths too...and I am especially fond of the wonderful fragrance. My hyacinths, growing in the water, are often toppling over. Now I have them in soil, but the bulb isn't covered. It's the first time I grow them this way indoor. They are actually blooming! Thank you for visiting and your kind comment!
