Surprises

It is that time of year again. Naked Ladies are surprising us in the garden sending up their slender stalks with several buds at the top just waiting to show their beautiful faces.
While I was out pulling weeds I broke off several of these tall delicate stems. I was sad because I like to see these sweet pink faces swaying in the breeze. I decided to place them into vases just in case they decided to go ahead and open.To my delight another surpise coming from them. They make great cut flowers. Every bud has opened. So far they have been in the vases since Monday and continue to show those pretty pink faces.

Another little surprise from them is that as the bloom ages it gets a purple hue in the petals. I guess I have never had them inside, up close and so easy to view. I will remember that becasue I have quite a few of them in the garden.

I hope that you have a few of these beauties in the garden. They are such tough flowers despite their delicate appearance. Their green leaves come up early in the spring and then dies back and the bloom shoots up on a stem right from the bulb with multiple buds and all open making it such a delight as they seem to appear overnight.

I have planted yellow and red ones but they haven't shown their faces yet. Hmmm I will be on the look out for them now. Do you have Naked Ladies in your garden?? It seems that every region has a different name for them. Gail in Tennessee calls them Surprise Lilies for instance. What do you call them??

Another Surprise

The Ladies are back in town and I am happy to report they are fully dressed or at least they have their fancy hats on. It is always such fun to walk out into the garden and find that they have returned in all their spendor. What ever you want to call them 'Naked Ladies' or 'Surprise Lilies' they are fun to have in the garden. In early spring they send up this thick daylily like foilage which you can see on the left of the bottom photo just beyond the Iris foilage. It stays around for quite a while then dies back and I totally forget about their presence. Then like a few days ago I saw the sword like, naked stems popped up. I thought come one ladies, at least put your hats on, I see you blushing over there.They obliged me by popping on their hats. I think they are a fun addition to any garden. They will stay around now for some time before bedding down for the year. I hope you have some of these lovely visitors to your garden.

Sunny Skies and a Walk at the Park

Let me just tell you it has been the most beautiful day today. The sun was out all day and we are going to do our first grilling of the year. WHoooo hooooo..... You can see that we have tulips poking up around the welcome sign. I have several of these types of stones around the garden. They were all given to me by friends and family.

My first helebore blossom is trying its best to open today I doubt if it makes it but maybe tomorrow if the sun is out again we will have our first bloom.

The Naked Ladies are sending up their greenery. I didn't remember that they came up at the same time as the daffodils but they are this year. It is odd how they greenery shows up and then disappears. I always think I will seperate them and plant some elsewhere in the garden but I never get around to doing it. I forget all about them when they die down.

The Maple tree is blooming up a storm. It will soon be throwing its pollen all over the place and I will be sneezing.

The yellow crocus are popped up everywhere now and are blooming their sweet little faces off. We even have greenery of the purple ones up today. It won't be long and we will have some purple blooms.

Although I have been ballyhooing about the bright sunshine and warming in our garden when we took Luna to the park we found that winter has not loosed his grip. Not much was popping up other than a few more humans at the park. This must be a sign of spring too as we are usually the only people here during winter.

The only good thing about Luna's heart conditon that I have found so far is that it appears that we will have a little slower pace going through the woods now. It seems that smells have overtaken her drive. I don't mind this because we will have more time to look around.

I will talk at ya later. I gotta go get the grill fired up. My Dearly Beloved has offered to make his Italian Burgers. Yummm My mouth is watering just thinking about them.
