As I looked out the back door today I realized how dry and bedraggled my poor garden looks. I realize it is autumn but it is usually our wet time here. I am not usually out there watering up a storm to keep things looking healthy. The Virginia Creeper going up the maple tree is turning red and flinging its leaves off as it tries to deal with the drought conditions.
This evening when I went outside with Luna for the last time I was slapped in the face with dust. The air is permeated with dust. Even though the photo below is blurry the moon as it was rising did appear to have a ring of dust around it. I couldn't get enough light to capture the silouettes as I saw them so...
I got the scope and tripod out to try to capture the clouds that are floating around near the moon.
As it is I just can't get a satisfying photo. I can't hardly stand to stay inside tonight. The moon keeps drawing me out. This Harvest or Water Lily Moon, what ever you want to call it is beautiful. I hope you all can see it.

Great shots of the moon. I love that arbor. What are you using for the eyes on your stump ornament? That is a great idea for a stump. The hair is neat too.

ReplyDeleteI watched the moon rise this evening. It was so bright while we were driving home from my parents that it was almost distracting. It's been particularly beautiful this month...and like you, I can't stop looking at it. Nice shots!
ReplyDeleteI also meant to say -- speaking of Virginia Creeper -- I saw some today that had grown up a neighbor's clothesline pole and had wound its flame red tendrils around 20 feet of the clothesline itself. Talk about pretty laundry. :)
ReplyDeleteI went outside earlier tonight and was so caught by that beautiful moon, too. I hurried to get my camera but my photos were awful. Here I am coming by to visit you and your photos (of the very same moon I couldn't take my eyes off of earlier)are quite beautiful. I have no idea what setting to put my camera on to get even a slightly decent photo of that magnificent, brightly shining orb of the night.
ReplyDeleteBut you know what strikes me soberly about all of this??? You are over a thousand miles and several states away and we were captured by the very same thing tonight. I'm convinced gardeners are connected to each other in some sort of cosmic way. Thanks for this post, Lisa.

Oh I can see it Lisa....I love the moon and your photographs are wonderful.........when we can see the moon clearly Mr.P and I always stand on the landing in our old house, open the window and look at her together.......she has us both under her spell......

Driving to work clouds were drifting across the moon. I wanted to stop and park and just gaze at it. Of course I would have been killed out there on the bypass;)

I went out with the camera this morning, we get up so early it is still the middle of the night to some folks. I haven't checked my shots yet but know they will be nothing like you last one! Holding still is key? Or is there a special setting? Will you tell your secret of success? ;->

There is a club here that takes amazing pictures of the moon, stars and planets. Your moon shots are way cool and the arbor is classic.

Meems, I have often thought about how we gardeners love nature and are always looking at the same moon and stars. It is a joy to know we are all connected in that way.
Frances, that last photo is taken through our spotting scope. You get the moon situated in the view, make sure it is in focus, put your camera up to the eye piece, focus and shoot. If you have a telescope give it a try.

I don't get why the rain is avoiding your area. We keep getting regular rains. (Sorry!) I wish my Virginia Creeper would turn red. Your' makes a great focal point through the arbor.
