Nan over at Hayfield has an excellent post
here about this seemingly common disease that has popped up again this spring. I am sure if you look around your neighborhood at this time of year you will see signs of this malady. As you can see we have a small infestation here in the pots on our front porch. You can see the colorful egg-like spores in our flower pots.
I am not certain but I think we can attribute the spread of this disease, at least in my garden, by the unassuming bunny that parks its self on the bench on my front porch. I am keeping a keen eye on him. I would love to actually see him in the act of spreading these ova in the garden. Are you having the same trouble in your garden? Be sure to read

Good heavens - it affects container plantings too? It's more serious than I thought. Thank you for contributing this photographic evidence of yet another infective type. Perhaps we should name it Ova paschalis var. greenbowensis?

ReplyDeleteI love all your spring flowers, Lisa! I haven't noticed any infestations here, but Sophie did manage to find one ova spora in the yard. I'm still trying to figure that one out--it's got me actually believing in the Easter Bunny!

ReplyDeleteLisa, here's a funny thing... we saw that Ova paschalis all over the place in Illinois, but have seldom run across it here in Austin. There must be a logical explanation as to why!

ReplyDeleteHmm... interesting posting here. I haven't heard of this myself. I think our old cherry tree may have been diseased, which is why we had it taken down.
It does not look like too onerous of a disease ... looks like it may even lead to gales of giggles instead of wails of pain.
ReplyDeleteThat was very cute. It seems we had the same problem here and we set about collecting them to try and stop the spread. Strange how it happens every year at this time.
