I have two new Toad Lilies that are blooming up a storm. One is Tricyrtis hirta 'Arctic"...
The other is 'Empress'. I love the cool blue of the Arctic and the royal purple color of 'Empress.
The Autumn Clematis is beginning to bloom like a spray of firworks.
The 'Unique' hydrangea is blooming nice through this heat. It always makes me feel cool to see those white blooms in the deep shade. Niko Blue still has some big mop heads of blue going.
There are plenty of the old fashioned Plantain Lily blooming. The big white blooms attract the bees and hummingbirds. French honeysuckle is blooming nicely too. Of course the Susans continue to bloom and tall garden Phlox perfumes the hot air.
For more blooms from around the world go to Carols at Maydreams Garden.
Lovely Bloom Day offerings, Lisa! That lantana is so bright and cheerful, and the whites are crisp and cool-looking. I really do envy you being able to grow tricyrtis so beautifully.
ReplyDeleteI love your fresh, white hydrangea, Lisa. So foreign in these parts. ;-)
ReplyDeleteI have agave pics up today. Hope you enjoy!
Just lovely! Must explore toad lilies myself.
ReplyDeleteHi Lisa! That Empress toad lily is a stunner. I have a bunch of toad lilies but she's new to me. The only one that's blooming for me at the moment is Tojen.
ReplyDeleteAw, man, Lisa -- I am so totally jealous of your amazing Toad Lilies. They are so beautiful -- both colors are so unique. Mine have now totally shriveled down into 1 leaf sticking out of the mulch. Where are you growing them and do they get much sun/water? Mine are in full shade and I try to water them by hand mostly daily. I had others in sun and they died right away. Keep showing yours so I get some more eye candy.
ReplyDeleteThose toad lillies are very cool! All your flowers look greay. I just love the hydrangeas.
ReplyDeleteGreat autumn clematis.
ReplyDeleteoh, your Toad lilies look great!
ReplyDeleteIt's been so hot here that it seems only the Crepe Myrtle is thriving lately. Love those pretty lilies!
ReplyDeleteSitting in your shade garden looks like a great way to stay cool, Lisa. I didn't realize toad lilies bloomed at this time of year--they're beautiful!
ReplyDeleteOoh, a little sneak preview; I'm so excited. I just adore toad lilies and I love the autumn clematis, too (neither of which I have--WHY?!). It's been mostly DRY here, though.
ReplyDeleteDear Lisa,
ReplyDeleteYou have a nice mix of cultivated and wild blooming. Rain today so I do not know if I will get out to hunt bugs or not!
I guess I could hunt spiders in the basement!

It seems unfair that so many of the beautiful native plants that bloom in summer get saddled with the moniker "weed." Lucky for Chelone to avoid that fate. It's such a great color. I'm drooling over your new Tricyrtis 'Artic.' I've never seen that one.
ReplyDeleteI love your toad lilies! I have not been successful with them. Yours are beauties. Turtle head is a beauty too... where do these names come from? I suppose it does look a bit like a turtle head... I used to have that plant too... you inspire me to try both again.
ReplyDeleteThat Autumn clematis is just lovely. Looks like your flowers are enjoying the warm summer days.
ReplyDeleteHi Lisa.....it is just surprising how many flowers do survive the hot and dry conditions.
ReplyDeleteI love lantana.....it is one of my favourite annuals....
Love the clematis.....beautiful, would fit in well with my white theme!!
My hydrangea's have not done at all well this year. I think the dry weather has not suited them....blooms are few.....
These are all great, Lisa. But that Empress lily leaves me speechless. And cooled off. So thanks.
ReplyDeleteLisa, gorgeous August blooms. Especially the toad lilies. I have not tried to grow these, but after seeing yours...
ReplyDeleteYour hydrangea is just what Pam says-fresh looking in the heat of late summer. I love the look of the pale yellow lantana with the varigated leaves of the hostas.
Rose and I have Sweet Autumn clematis on our lists for this fall. The garden center is supposed to be raising several for sale soon. Can't wait to have blooms like yours.
I love the toad lilies, they are so pretty. The sweet autumn clematis is blooming here too.
ReplyDeleteHi Lisa, can't believe your sweet autumn is blooming already. I always look forward to that time here too.
ReplyDeleteMy hydrangea is looking nice but doesn't have a lot of blooms this season.
Marnie
Lisa,
ReplyDeleteThe photos are great! We have the Sweet Autumn too and this is the first year we've gotten to really enjoy the fragrant blooms.--Randy
Hi there Lisa, wishing you a belated Happy Bloom Day :-)
ReplyDeleteOh… I do love your toad lilies… I’ve a feeling I say that every year at this time! Ah… but that Autumn Clematis has really caught my eye… just stunning :-D
Wishing you a good week :-D
Beautiful Lisa. Just beautiful. I'm surprised that our gardens are on pretty much the same track this year. Some of the same blooms and some of the same plants. Happy Bloom Day.~~Dee
ReplyDeleteLisa, I'm adding myself as another tricyrtis 'Arctic' fan. I'd not seen that... the closest I have is 'Blue Wonder.' Some of my T's are beginning to bloom. Oh! I hope my new camera is easy to use.
ReplyDeleteI could have almost visualized (and smelled) your flowers through your narration!
Say! I'm thinking you didn't click on the butterfly photo at my site... ;-)
Lisa, if I remember correctly, you have an in-town lot, is that right? Well, I just cannot believe what a garden of eden you must have with all the different plants. Beautiful!
ReplyDeleteSo pretty, Lisa, and as usual, a bit ahead of us here. My toad lilies are just starting to show buds. I'm actually readly for summer to end and fall to begin. But I want fall to last forever. LOL.
ReplyDeleteEverything is so beautiful!!! The toad lily is exceptional!
ReplyDeleteYour whites are stealing the show, Lisa! The lantanas here also take so long to get revved up, but then will take us into winter with those colorful hues. Your hydrangeas are a delight.
ReplyDeleteFrances
The hydrangeas really are workhorses aren't they? Yours are just lovely.
ReplyDeleteWow! Those are bright and lovely! What a wonderful collection you got there, Lisa! Love 'em all.
ReplyDeleteToad lilies, Lisa, how cool is that! But I can't believe your Sweet Autumn clematis is blooming already. Though I love them, I call them and the anemones 'summer-killers' because when they bloom that usually means it's almost all over.
ReplyDeleteGreat piece of camera work..Thats really great to see all the pictures..its simply superb..

I love the 4th, 5th and 6th shots Lisa.
ReplyDeleteJust so beautiful!
You also have a great weekends:)
You have some lovely blooms there! I love the toad lilies. I have some blackberry lilies. I'm not sure what the difference is, I'll have to check that out.
ReplyDeleteI've probably been at your blog before, but I have lots of trouble keeping up with all the blogs I like. I came here this morning after reading your comment on Heirloom Gardener's blog about living on a busy corner. You said you have created privacy. Our yard isn't that big, so I don't know if I could do that or not. I have to get ready for the day, but want to come back to find photos of your yard to see how you did it.
I enjoyed your post about the other bloggers coming to visit, too.
I adore that lantana! Whenever I see the happy yellows and golds, I wonder why I always insist on gravitating toward the multicolored reds instead.
ReplyDeleteThose toad lilies are gorgeous! I must add them to my wish list. I have the same yellow lantana blooming in a container. The lacecap hydrangea is glorious! I want one!
ReplyDeleteHow nice that you got to meet Monica and her friend. Blogging makes for some great friendships, doesn't it?
