I didn't think I had any new blooms today to show for GBBD however this evening when I did my final walk about I found the first Daffodil in bloom. I didn't see it today because it is in a hidden spot. It is at the base of a tree where a few years ago after dividing many daffs I was tired of planting them so I threw the remaining bulbs in a pile under a bush. Well, they showed me. They are my first to bloom this year. The only way you can tell they have been mistreated is that they are a little smaller than they should be. Other than that they are pretty as any yellow daffodil.
I also found another hellebore blooming. Not a whole lot of blooms on this plant but they are just beginning to bloom.
For more blooms go to Carol's May Dreams Garden. You will see wonderous blooms from all over the world. Happy Garden Blogger's Bloom Day to you.
The daffs will not die! How nice to find them surviving...
ReplyDeleteYou have a daffodil blooming already?!?! WOW! Cool! (Or, warm!) I did find my little witch hazel is blooming for the first time ever, and some winter-sown seedlings have popped up!
ReplyDeleteI started planting daffodils a couple years ago. They flower fine despite my general neglect, but they don't seem much bigger this year than they did last year. I hope next year they become the clumps I've been waiting for.
ReplyDeleteI only have crocus in bloom but the daffodils have buds. It won't be long now. I looked at the 10 day and it looks like we have some great gardening weather coming. I have lots of cleaning up to do!
ReplyDeleteIt looks like you have already had a good start on projects!
LOL at your daffodil planting method. Your Hellebore resembles on of my seedling Hellebores. I like the subtle blend of green & pink.
ReplyDeleteThat will teach you to be mean to daffys! I will bet they will need dividing very soon and you will have to dig lost of holes for them. :) I am hoping some of mine will be blooming in a couple of weeks. Easter needs daffodils. Your hellebore is gorgeous and must give you great pleasure. I am just going to have to get some of those planted here.
ReplyDeleteHey Lisa girl your hellebore are ahead of mine : ) I have buds but no one wants to smile at me yet ? LOL
ReplyDeleteYour daffs are so bright and pretty .. but it is funny .. I have mistreated mine to by moving them around way too much .. so we are in the same "Naughty to Daffs" club ?

Hi Lisa, some plants just really want to live. That was a lucky accident. Love the color blend in your hellebore.

The first daffodil... what a great find! Glad that you found a little treasure on your walk today, Lisa. :)
ReplyDeleteI don't care who or where you are, that first daff of the season will always put a smile on your face! Hang in there spring is on the way!-- Randy
ReplyDeleteI love your castoff daffodil, Lisa! I appreciate any plant that grows in spite of my neglect:) Your hellebore is a beauty, too; I'm so hoping to see some blooms on mine this year.
ReplyDeleteI love the way the daffodiles "grow where they are planted"! Plants do teach all sorts of life lessons. I see a book emerging from this..."Everything I needed to know I learned from plants!" Trees have taught me so much.
ReplyDeleteHappy bloom day!
Sherry
How exciting to see your first Daffs. This morning I noticed the tips of ours have just begun to poke through the garden. Warm and sunny today (and forecast for the remainder of the week)after days and days of rain.
ReplyDeleteBTW- the popcorn on the ceiling comes off by just spraying it with water :-} very messy but works!
Both beautiful blooms Lisa.....but for me there is nothing quite like a hellebore flower.
ReplyDeleteOh, that daff is a dream! And the new guy is a new friend. Beautiful.
ReplyDeleteI love how resilient daffodils are... talk about blooming where you are planted! :c)
ReplyDeleteDear Lisa, daffodils and hellebores, the perfect spring duo. Your first daff is prized for so many reasons. You are ahead of us with that one.
ReplyDeleteFrances
What lovely spring flowers. Hopefully, it won't be long and your garden will be full of blooms.
ReplyDeleteYeah~~spring time looks lovely in your garden...I think you beat the dafs in some zone 7 gardens. Your hellebore is especially lovely, too.
ReplyDeleteI have noticed that those errant bulbs seem to grow anywhere! They are much hardier then we think.

Hi there Lisa :-) Well impressed you found a daffodil in flower! Very nice to see… love that hellebore too. Here’s hoping you’ll be able to get out into your garden more now :-D
ReplyDeleteDaffodils and Hellebores are my favorite spring flowers and yours are beautiful. Isn't it amazing that your Daffs survived in spite of you! That's Mother Nature showing us we are not in charge! Happy GBBD.
ReplyDeleteboth are lovely... cheers!
ReplyDeleteOur daffodils are only showing their leaves now. But all the hellebores are blooming. I've rea in another post of yours that you like this plant too. The one you show here has a very nice and special color. Do your plants also make a lot of seedlings? My beds are full of new tiny plants. Unfortunately the double sorts don't :-( !
ReplyDeleteBarbara, It doesn't seem like my plants make a lot of seedlings. Maybe it is because I use a lot of mulch.
ReplyDeleteThank you all for stopping in to check out GBBD here at Greenbow. I always look forward to your comments.
Hey Lisa ... that happened to me one year too .. an older standard daff "showed" me up for tossing them to the side by blooming their little heads off ! it was a gorgeous little scenario : )
ReplyDeleteHellebore heaven !! I have a little collection now and I'm nervous about how they will do .. Orientalis is budding out but the others have to follow suit , crossed fingers : )
Great Bloom Day post girl !
I love it! Why is it the things we WANT to grow and pamper, won't, and the things we abuse just keep right on going? Beautiful hellebore, too. Mine are almost ready to open. :-)
ReplyDeleteHello Lisa! Happy Spring Day to you!!!Soon I'll be seeing my yellow dafs smiling at me too!
ReplyDeleteHappy weekend to you dear friend!!
Nothing here yet, but buds! Strange, since we have had a couple of warm weeks.
ReplyDeleteThat's very cool the daffodil survived. They really are one tough bulb. Beautiful hellebore.
ReplyDeleteThat's an early daffodil! And lucky you to have that beautiful Hellebore. I'm so looking forward to seeing blooms on my 2 plants. Keeping my fingers crossed. One of them has never bloomed before and I don't know what color it's going to be.
ReplyDeleteI was excited to find a winter aconite blooming on Thursday. One lonely, but tough little soldier :) A friend gave me seeds last year.
And today I found a couple of crocus blooms about to burst forth!
Happy spring, Lisa!
Happy Spring to you!
ReplyDeleteMore than twenty years ago I remember my Illinois garden mentor walking around my garden, shaking her head wherever the daffodils had come up all leaves without flowers...."Too deep!" she'd say..."Too deep! Lift them and reset them higher in the ground."
ReplyDeleteWhen I read about your daffodils being reset really high in the ground, Vi's voice came into my head. Happy Spring, Lisa!

I am waiting impatiently for spring to progress a bit so I can visit a new friend who has promised me some hellebores which he says run rampant in his garden.
ReplyDeleteThe second bloom looks so rare but beautiful to me. The first one also so so so appealing.
ReplyDeleteI hope to be Alice wondering in your flowerland Lisa!
