Garden Bloggers Bloom Day - October 2010

I enjoy this Garden Bloggers Bloom Day the most because it is the anniversary of the first blog post I ever made.  That was three years ago. Carol who hosts Garden Bloggers Bloom Day here was most encouraging to me to start a blog. I thank Carol for this encouragement because blogging has certainly imporved  my gardening skills. Learning from generous encouraging garden bloggers in the world. I do mean all over the world.
The blooms I had here three years ago are mostly the same this year with a few additions.
Such as this beautiful new variety of hydrangea that was gifted to me by Cheryl another blogger I was fortunate enough to meet this summer. This hydrangea is an ever bloomer named Vanilla Strawberry Hydrangea paniculata 'Renhy'. I am impressed by its will to live and bloom in this drought. Of course I am keeping it watered since it just arrived here.
One of my succulent pots has had a bloom on it for a couple of months. Unfortunately I cut the bloom part off in this photo trying to get a picture of the mums at its feet. The blooms on the succulent isn't too showy but it is a bloom.
Another mum that has been in this spot for several years. I like it little button shape and the yellow center. I have no idea what variety it is. All I know is that it must be hardy growing here where it gets little to no extra water.
Of course making a big splash over the fence this time of year is the white anemone.  It is such a stalwart plant. It held its buds stubbornly until I decided to give it some water then it opened to say thank you and please don't forget me later when you water again.
Since blogger won't let me upload more photos I will just say that I have Toad lilies blooming and a few annuals as well. Happy Garden Bloggers Bloom Day.

  3. Happy Blogaversary, Lisa! And also a big thank-you to you, since yours was the first blog I read and the one that inspired me to start blogging as well. It's been such a wonderful experience, and I've learned so much about gardening from other bloggers as well, not to mention the friends I've made and met, such as you, Lisa.

I love your anemone! And I think your new hydrangea looks better than mine--I've been trying to be faithful in watering it, but they do like a long drink every day. The skies have been cloudy here all day, and I stopped raking leaves when it began sprinkling--but that's all it did...sprinkle. Darn! Back to watering...

  12. Hi Lisa, congrats on three years of blogging! I am happy to see that you have blooms despite the lack of rain. That is a beautiful hydrangea, and hooray for mums that come back even when they aren't supposed to be hardy. Sometimes they fool us. :-)

  13. Thank you to all of you for the congrats on my blogging. It has been a fun ride getting to know you all.

Kim, I will bring the succulents in to my dining room. They will get spindly during winter since it is a NE facing window but will survive...I hope.

Rose I have only been watering the new hydrangea twice per week. I give it a really deep watering though. It has been working. Since I took this photo I cut off all but two of the blooms. I don't want the plant to work on making blooms but to get its roots going.

I love the blue of your Hydrangeas. My Anemones aren't too happy with me about the water situation. Why won't it rain?

Lovely blooms! My Soil Sister Jan had told me about Strawberry Vanilla hydrangea and just loves it. I might have to add that one to the hydrangea collection here! Anything that survives this drought is a winner!
