Garden Bloggers Bloom Day - January 2011

Today is January 15th and we all know that the 15th of each month is Garden Bloggers Bloom Day as brought to us by Carol at May Dreams Garden.
Sitting in my kitchen window I have a trio of Hyacinths that are sitting on regular little vases and a small jar. I can't tell you what color they will be because my neighbor gave them to me. She thinks they will be an apricot color. We will see.
I am most happy to report that there are buds on one of them. That counts doesn't Carol?? For us that live in the Zone 6 or colder I think that buds should count for today.
Another bud going here only outside is on a pachysandra. I checked the Hellebores but they haven't been fooled by the meltdown occuring today. They haven't set any buds as yet. Just as well. This way I hope to have something to show you next month.
Do you have any blooms in your garden today?  If you do won't you post them for all to see? For more blooms around the world go to May Dreams Garden.

I agree, buds should count. If there were not indoor plants, those of us in snow zones would have nothing colorful to show. I am hoping my forced bulbs will be blooming for February. It looks promising. My one orchid had buds and only one flower open when I took its photo for GBBD. The other four orchids are stalks with small buds. Fingers are crossed.

Ooh... I LOVE your beautiful vases for the hyacinths. And I agree, buds should count--especially in the wintertime in the north! Happy GBBD. :)

Definitely buds count - especially with all those impressive roots in the forcing glasses. Nice to have them on your window as you observe their progress.

I think ANYTHING should count for January. Your hyacinths are going to be gorgeous when they bloom. Heck, they're already gorgeous.

Hello Lisa,
I have been wanting to get some bulb vases ever since I started blogging and seeing them in people's photos but have just not managed to acquire any after 3 years of this 'blog visiting' activity! I always forget and get caught up in some other activity until this time of year arrives--and then I wish I'd thought of it earlier. I wonder if it's too late to find some bulbs somewhere out there. Maybe this will give me a little 'project' to think about -- as if I have nothing else to keep me busy! Your vases look so pretty next to the window. Very cheery. And when those hyacinths bloom it's going to smell like heaven;-)

You would have laughed your AS_ off at me holding my laptop so close to my eyes trying to figure out what that white stuff is in your blog banner!!!! It suddenly occured to me it was snow! LOLOLOL! I am such a dork! Those hyacinths are really neat! Show the blooms later, OK???

Oh, I hope your hyacinths ARE apricot, because those will be gorgeous! And think how good they'll smell!

I'll have to go out and look at my pachysandra to see if it's budding. I'll have to dig through the snow drift to find it. LOL

Don't believe I have seen apricot colored hyacinths before, that will be so cool..Wonder if they are as fragrant as there cousins the purple and pink?

I posted flowers that aren't alive for my post, so buds are closer to blooms than what I showed. LOL

I am thinking I should try my hand at forcing bulbs one of these days. I like the look of yours even without buds yet. I hope the outside plant recovers.

Here's another person sayign I liek the way you have the bulbs at the top of the vase, and can see teh dreadlock roots coming down. But mayeb I'm ignorant, and thesevases are designed specifically for this purpose?

Hyacinths are the rich sweet stuff of hope!

Hooray for the hyacinths! I would be excited to see this green growth, too, Lisa, and not knowing what color to expect just adds to the fun. I forgot all about my hyacinth bulbs and just set them out a few days ago, so I don't even have a bud to show. The temps here have been below freezing all week, so I know better than to even check outside.

Benjamin loves the dreadlock roots. Man, that cracks me up. Now that's a keeper for this spring's hyancinth crop

How lovely to have the promise of Hyacinth blooms and that divine perfume! I'll look forward to seeing what color the flowers turn out to be.
Our school is closed today. We're in for more snow and perhaps some freezing rain, then arctic temps again tomorrow. The birds are busy at the feeders in the dawn light.
Loved seeing the pics of Luna enjoying herself on your snowy walk. She keeps you well exercised! :)

Apricot would be so springy, Lisa! One of these years I'm going to force hyacinths. I have a few outside but in those glass holders one could really watch the development of every little segment from bud to floret.

Not much going on in zone 8 right now!

Buds definitely count! Very pretty vases. Hyacinth fragrance is such a welcome sniff of spring when you're hunkered down in a snowstorm... Happy belated bloom day.
