Coral Bark Japanese Maple

August has been it's usual self so far as far as rainfall goes. We haven't had much at all. The usual garden visitors have been flitting by.
The Ladies have popped up all around the garden. Showing off their pretty little heads.
They are being well attended by the Hummers.
It has been unusually cool here. Temps only in the 80's. It has felt so nice out. I have been sitting on the patio a whole lot  more lately. While sitting out enjoying the cooler weather I started wondering what kind of sales Perk A Lawn, the local Nursery, is having. It is 'that' time of year after all.
Imagine my surprise when I found a Coral Bark Japanese Maple on sale. Whoo hooo... I have wanted one of these beauties for some time. I just didn't ever want to pay a big price for such a treasure.  This one I couldn't resist.
My DB being such a good sport dug the gigantic hole that this tree demanded.  Thank you Dear.
Now I can sit here on the patio and see a beautiful tree year round.  I know I will enjoy watching it grow.
Have you been out to the nurseries lately to see what is on sale? Beware, you might find something you can't live without.

  1. Great find Lisa! The rains have lesson for us and I am happy with a less soggy yard and garden but now will have to water containers.

Yes, the Bargains are popping up in the garden centers. The humidity keeps me at bay and I know I shall regret that as bargains are my friend! But I shall not fret as I will leave those bargains for others to enjoy.

  3. What a great find! And DB is such a sweetie for helping to plant it. You just reminded me that one of my favorite nurseries sent me an email a few days ago with lots of tempting buys...I've been avoiding the temptation because anything new means digging up lots more dirt--there's no bare soil left to plant anything right now!

Great capture of the hummer! I've been sitting on my front porch trying to get a good photo, but they seem to know when I have my camera.

  4. Lisa, you sure hit the jackpot on that coral bark, one of my favorite Japanese maples. And while I no longer expect snow to show off those red twigs, you certainly will. I know you'll enjoy that winter show.

  7. Things look great, Lisa (and congrats on the Japanese maple!) I did giggle a little when you said temperatures were cool in the low 80s...I'd be flat on the ground or on the cool leather couch, with a fan running on me. I like low 70s for optimum temperature, but that's just my cold blooded self!

  11. Hello again, Lisa - I'm absolutely thrilled to hear about your find of a reasonably priced Coral barked Acer :-)))) I can easily imagine your delight, knowing you've admired mine for a few years now and this tree was on your wish list. You won't be disappointed - especially come Autumn with wonderful leaf colour and then throughout winter when birds land on its red branches :-)

I always admire your butterflies and hummers from afar - it's great to be back blog hopping again! Wishing you a great weekend of gardening and wildlife watching :-D
