I got busy this week because I knew I was going to have some visitors. So I got the Conservatory all cleaned out and arranged. The Woodspirits were also happy that I gave them some attention.
Out front where I hate to work due to all the sun and heat my DB dug in and cleared the worst weeds out. He called me over to look at the tremendous plantain he found growing, so you can imagine the shape of this garden. I almost had him leave it since it had worked so hard to grow to this size but then I thought of all the little plantains just waiting to escape from those pods. It would have been a nightmare had I left it no doubt.
With my garden spiffed up, as much as it could be at this point, I was ready for their arrival. Here arrived Monica the Garden Faerie
and her friend Carole. They were on their way to Missouri Botanic Garden. I was just delighted that they stopped in to see us on their way.
(in the photo Monica, Lisa and Carole)
What with my garden winding down for the season and them having a few extra minutes to spare in their trip I offered to take them to a couple of gardens not far from mine. I think I can say a good time was had by all. I hope you all have a great weekend too.
I don't know exactly what a conservatory is, but I like yours a lot. The little figures are so cute. Your flowers are beautiful as usual. I had not visited your garden for a while. I have been trying to spend time with my business. We have so many reports due in Aug, Sept, and Oct. My helpers really needed some help. So I have fallen behind on posting, painting, and visiting my friend’s blogs. This weekend I finally felt up to painting and visiting. I see you posted a note on my blog today. The is the first painting I have done in almost a month between not feeling great and a lot of work to do. I always appreciate your comments. JudyReplyDelete
Lisa, I love your woodspirits! Maybe they can come hang out with the fairies at my house. You have a conservatory? I'm jealous! Now I'm going to look through your old posts to see if I can see more pictures of it. How I wish I had a room to overwinter my tropical plants.ReplyDelete
Loved the photo of you and your gardening friends. Now, which one are you?
This is always great to meet friends from blogosphere.ReplyDelete
Life is beautiful!
How fun that you all got to meet up. And, in the process, you got a bed weeded too...lol... it would take a visit like that for me to get to some of the weeds that have grown up under things too.ReplyDelete
I am the one standing in the middle. Longer white hair.ReplyDelete
Hi Lisa.....I am sure your garden looks delightful and that you made them both so very welcome.ReplyDelete
That is a huge plantain....I actually grow them in the garden...I like them (yes I am a little strange).....but you are so right they are very invasive.....
You have made me feel very guilty about my conservatory....I think I shall give it a good clean this week......love your feature....
It's nice to see Spring Fling friendships renewed with personal visits.ReplyDelete
Ahh...Look at two of my friends!!ReplyDelete
You and Monica...now I can put a face to your lovley words!!
Wish I was there..but know that I am in spirit!!
This week I'll show more of my garden come by! hugs
That is a huge plaintain! And how nice to have some garden visitors.ReplyDelete
I like your conservatory. And the discovery in the garden? Maybe the spirits know something....It's nice you had such a good time.ReplyDelete
Lisa -- how nice you got to see Monica again so soon after Chicago. Sounds like you had a great time.ReplyDelete
Lisa, Don't you wish you could have gone with them to MBG! It's a great botanical garden! My friend, you get the blue ribbon for Healthiest plaintain on record! Wow! That is one big plant!ReplyDelete
I love the Woodspirits.
Lisa, knowing you-I wouldn't imagine your gardens needed much owrk at all. :) Monica and Carol were here today and we had the best time. I had 4 of the granddaughters with me and we showed our guests the Idea Garden and then Rose's garden before coming to my house. Hubby had a delicious lunch of BLTs ready for us with garden fresh tomatoes. YUM!ReplyDelete
The girls so enjoyed taking Monica and Carol around the gardens and showing them their climbing tree and all their favorite play spots. And our visitors were very gracious-spending lots of time chatting with the girls.
Garden blogging has introduced us to some wonderful people hasn't it?!
Beckie, you bet that Gardening has introduced us to some nice people. I am glad Monica and Carole had a good visit with you and the girls. I know they enjoyed your garden. I would like to see that idea garden sometime. I will have to get over there to see it. That S is a sweetie to fix some lunch for you all. It sounds good to me right now.ReplyDelete
How wonderful to have visitors. You three look so cute!
It has been so wet I also have large volunteers in all the different gardens. My husband dug out bushes and trees that have sprung up this year. Too big for my trowel!
A cold front moved in last week. I am so happy to wear long sleeves again! The kids at the bus stop have sweaters on this morning! Autumn is coming....climate change!
It's very interesting to get to know the faces behind a blog and even meet fellow bloggers. I'm sure you had a great time together...as gardeners always have to talk about their favourite subject: garden and plants.ReplyDelete
Have a good week, Lisa!
Hi Lisa, nice to meet some blogger friends. Glad everyone had a good time.ReplyDelete
There's nothing like having a few friends over to get you spiffing everything up. How nice that they were able to combine their trip with a trip to your patch and you could take them to see more gardens in your area. Visiting gardens is just about the best trip anyone can have.ReplyDelete
As to that plantain- I had lots of small ones this year. I don't know where they came from and for a while I thought they might be something good until I saw that flower stalk. Then I knew it was time to pull 'em out.
Hi Lisa, I enjoyed seeing you again and Carole and I loved your garden, and the other gardens where you took us. You were so inviting and friendly, we both felt right at home! I'll be posting my photos soon (ish, to be realistic), including what I think is a fabulous one of Luna! I'm so happy that from here on out, I can picture your garden whenever I read your blog. Thanks again for everything--the fleeceflower is ready and waiting for me to find it a home. I found some cool info on that, too! :) Thanks again, MonicaReplyDelete
That is a huge plantain, Lisa! So glad you had a good time with Monica and Carole. I only wish I had been home when Monica came to visit. I was too busy helping Daughter pack before we left to do any weeding or cleaning up...I shudder to think what my garden looked like when Beckie and Monica came over:) One of these days Beckie is going to have to take me along to see yours.ReplyDelete
Wow! That is one big plantain. I think it could go into the Guinness Book of World Records. At least, it's babies are easily pulled out (unlike some weeds). It is nice to have friends visit your garden. It seems to be the only time that I race around and get rid of the piles of weeds that I leave all over the place. (Drives my husband crazy!)ReplyDelete
wow, am impressed with your collection, and it's great you meet some friends.ReplyDelete
Sounds like a good time was had by all, including the Woodspirits.ReplyDelete
Hi Lisa, how nice that you have those visitors! Monica and her friend must have loved seeing you garden too. The Woodspirits are just too cute, love how they have their own display area. That plantain is just plain scary! Remember, that is host to the dreaded aster yellows disease spread by the devil leaf hoppers!ReplyDelete
Monica, I will look forward to seeing a good picture of Luna. She is difficult to photograph. It was fun having you and Carole here. Come back any time.ReplyDelete
Frances, I am not familiar with the disease that you mention. I have small plantain plants all through the lawn. SIGH.. I will have to look up the disease to see where all it is. It surely is here.
I know the three of you had a good time and I'm sure Monica is just a hoot and a half!--RandyReplyDelete
Monica is so much fun to hang out with. How great she was able to stop for a visit.ReplyDelete
I'll bet the Garden Fairie enjoyed communing with the Woodspirits too!
What an adorable collection of woodspirits!ReplyDelete
What a lot of fun you have, Lisa!ReplyDelete

Lisa, it sounds like such fun, well the part about the visits. I hate to clean whether it's a conservatory or not. :) Glad you got together and visited gardens. I can't think of a better time.~~DeeReplyDelete
Monica is a lot of fun so I'm sure you all had a great time. I like your woodspirits too!ReplyDelete
