Shopping

My Daughter, Sister and I made our yearly trek to one of our favorite nurseries in the area, Hasting Plants. It is located in the far southern tip of Indiana. Their advertising states that it is worth the drive. We all agree that it is indeed worth the drive. Their plants are healthy and Nancy, the owner, is so knowlegeable and her staff is most helpful and friendly.

Nancy also sends out a newsletter to whet your appetite for some of the delicious flowers, veggies and perrennials that she has for the season.

You just have to take your time to browse through all the herbs, veggies, annuals, perrennials etc that are available. This year she even had a nice line of succulents available.

As you can see they have more than Annuals and perrennials available. They have all sorts of garden ornaments, telllises, vases, benches etc.

They even have their resident cat that is oh so concerned about customer traffic.

I didn't take too many pictures because when I step into one of the four big hoop greenhouses I totally go into the "shopping zone." Color and form take over my senses and not much else gets into my mind.

Not only does Hasting's have the right "stuff" Nancy tries to have lots of new introductions of the year and some of the "plants of the year".

I was pretty good this time. I didn't come home with any "decorations" even though I would like to have one of these stone troughs.

I did make it home with a few items for the pots in the garden. A good time was had by all...

  1. Lisa, I am so glad you had a good time. Isn't it fun to go to a real nursery? I think you showed a great deal of restraint, but what you did get looks great. Enjoy your new plants.
Those troughs-I haven't seen those anywhere, but would love one!

  6. What fun to be in the shopping zone with like minded zoners. The troughs are something you could make at home, as large as you please and not have to try and carry them home. Looks like you are ready for container planting, armed with the new knowledge from the container posts on GGW's designer series. We expect photos of those all planted up. I once took my camera to the daylily farm close by and came home with several daylilies but not one photo. Shopping zone strikes again.

  8. Don't you just love going to the nursery?! I live near one and I had to get some mulch the other day so to keep myself from burning a hole in my check book, I went up to the counter paid for the mulch and walked right back out. I didn't wander on back to the greenhouse, I do shock myself sometimes! LOL.

  10. Sounds like a great deal and a wonderful place to shop. I love finding new nurseries and garden centers with different offerings. I think you showed remarkable restraint in passing up those lawn ornaments.

  11. I'm not a big shopper myself, but it is exciting to see what's on offer, especially after a long, long winter! Now if nurseries would only carry power tools, that would be heaven! :)

  12. Well, you couldn't drive all that way and not buy anything, could you? I think you showed amazing restraint! I go crazy when I get into a place like that. We don't have any here and we have to drive some distance. We make it an event. LOL

  14. Looks like you had a good time! I always seem to buy more when I shop with others. Will they help you plant them too?

  15. Hi Lisa! How great that you have a wonderful shopping place too. Sounds like a perfect day. (A tip: Shop first, *then* take pictures. It gives you a great excuse to take a second look in case you missed anything in the first plant-grabbing frenzy.)

  18. What a lovely garden center! There is absolutely nothing like that down here. I bet if I showed a photo of one of those arbours to the ironmonger he could make me one. I just have to convince Husband that we need it.
I made one of those troughs once. Okay, it wasn't really stone. We put a chicken wire frame into a cardboard box and the material was Portland cement and vermiculite. I'm sure that there was something else, but it ended up looking just like a carved stone through though. I think it's called hydrotuffa? It was still pretty heavy but nothing like the real thing.
    regards,

  19. I am glad you all enjoyed my shopping trip. I sure did... Thank you everyone for the comments. Shopping with other "addicts" is fun. We understand each other. We took 2 pick up trucks instead of all of us going in one. ha... Does that tell you something?? tee hee... We would help each other plant too but we live too far apart. This is our Spring Fling of shopping.
I would like to have a touffa pot too. Heck I want one of everything. I will have to try to remember to take pictures after the shopping. I had time becasue I waited for them to finish. I ended up buying more because of the wait. Ha... Good thing we departed or I would still be hauling it in.

I have all planted. I will post some pictures soon.

  20. It is indeed great fun to go shopping in nurseries with other garden friends. Four or six eyes see much better than only two when there are new plant introductions, lovely decoration articles or the absolute top garden tools....
