Nest Building

After a good one inch of rainfall the Robins have decided to make a new nest. I hope her other one wasn't blown down in the high winds the past 24 hours. This lovely lady was busy picking the dead grass from a spot in our lawn this morning. I want to thank my Dearly Beloved for taking this series of pictures. We were watching her through the patio doors as she pulled and pulled.

She was very diligent with her efforts.

How much grass could she cram into her beak?

Quite a lot actually.

I hope you all have a fun filled weekend.

  7. Lisa, I hope you aren't experiencing any flooding where you are.

I love the robin pictures. They certainly do cram a lot into those beaks.

  10. Joyce the robin flew right up into a big Ash tree in our garden.

    Thanks Mike.

I love to watch nature Teri I just don't always get good photos of what goes on. My DB did a good job with the circumstances.

Robin (bumblebee) I think she is building in the Ash tree in our garden. She is being very sneaky about where she is going with her materials.

Mon@rch she can get plenty of mud to use in her works today.

Jayne it was fun to watch her pull and pull the dead grass. Amazing how much she collected.

Robin, thank you for your concern but we were the lucky that the storms went well north of us. It is a big mess. We only got about an inch of rain which we needed.

Cheryl these Robins are just the heart of the summer garden. Summer wouldn't be complete without several robins flying around the garden.

Cyndy, I just love them too.

  11. Quite the wild weather you've been having. It all seems to go around my house lately (keeping fingers crossed). I love to watch the birds gathering their nest stuff. We had a robin in the Magnolia on a nest, but it abandoned it when it kept getting disturbed by me poking around there in the garden & by the garage door opening & closing. I hope your robin is more successful than ours.

  13. Lisa, that's the best advertisement for not having a 'golf course' lawn that I've ever seen...this bird was lucky enough to find some thatching material at your place ;-]

  17. Lisa, DB did a great job of capturing sequence of material gathering. I've never seen a bird have so much in their beak at one time. We had another goose drownder Fri. night and Sat. morning. 3+ in. Water everywhere!!

  20. gotta love those birds, especially the robins. I have a robin's nest in one of our spruce trees that a pair built 3 years ago! It has lasted 2 winters. I should maybe take a photo of it and post it this week. Thanks for the idea!

  23. Hello and many thanks to everyone that stopped by and left a comment.

Pam I think she makes many such trips with bills full of nesting material before those big sloppy nests are made.

  24. Great series of photos. I don't think I've ever seen a bird load up with so much nesting material in one trip. Very ambitious.
