Casa de Pantalla Year Two

The past few mornings have been absolutely perfect for sitting out in the Casa de Pantalla for my morning tea. This morning was no different. There was a breeze and the dappled sunlight enhnaced my reminese of the Spring Fling. I wish that all of you garden bloggers that came and those that couldn't attend could sit out here with me to enjoy the morning. Here, let me bring you into my Casa. We can stroll past the hydrangea walk, past the bird feeders...
to the Casa.
When you enter the Casa hopefully your eye will be stopped by the table with the ivy topiary and candleabra. The white plastic fence is rather eye jarring.
This brings to mind that all is not perfect in the Casa.
When you are sitting here, although you have 8 sides to look out into the garden...
the dreaded support bar obscures the view.
If you stand up...
and look out...
above the bars...
you get a better view of the flower beds...
around and near the Casa. Although I love the Casa as it is an inexpensive way to have a cozy screened retreat in the garden, when I get the $$ together to build a proper gazebo I will not have to look around center supports to admire the garden bug free.
So remember if you build a screened porch or gazebo, place your supports below eye level of sitting position. I hope you all are able to enjoy the weekend with blooming plants, singing birds and peace.

  1. Even with the support bars, it looks like a wonderful place to sit and admire the garden, "bug-free".

  2. What a lovely place to sit! After seeing this, I think I'll head out now to relax on the patio a little before heading to work.

  5. Lisa.....it is a lovely place to sit....so pretty....and of course you know that I am a great admirer of your garden. That has not changed, it is most charming....I could see dear Luna wandering in one of the photographs....your ferns look really lush to.
Tea was lovely, just what I needed after a safari......

  6. Love the casa (a big "neener neener" to mosquitoes!). :)

  7. Posts of not, it is the PERFECT way to enjoy the garden without mosquitos attacking you. The gardens look beautiful!

  8. I sure would like a screened it porch or gazebo. NCMountainwoman has a LOVELY screened in porch. Husband doesn't see the need as the bugs don't bother him ... but he did buy me a mosquito killing machine ... and it works pretty good too ... better the longer you use it of course cuz you get those egg laying females before they lay.

  9. I'm kinda cranky in the morning. I could sit out there and just be quiet. The support bars aren't so bad. The picture windows in the resident gardeners house are the same way, a bar right across the middle. You get used ot it.

  10. I love your Casa de Pantalla.
I have a bar stool on my deck my son gave me. It is perfect for over the deck railing photographs. I can move this way and that too!
    Your gardens are lovely.

  11. It's very pretty, Lisa. I think this is the first time I've really gotten a good sense of your property. It looks very spacious and restful. Elegant.

  12. It is a lovely place to sit and enjoy the garden. And what a garden you have! So lush and green and full. A delightful place to visit. I hope to have a garden like your someday. :)

  13. Jeez. I'd have loved to have just sat and relaxed a bit with nothing other than to read a paper, read a book and drink some tea. This is the annual weekend of putting together the Garden Walk Buffalo map, so I've put in more than 20 hours this weekend–we've more than 330 gardens this year! It's 95% done now and I get to pawn it off next to Elizabeth to proof!

Hey, that glass table would be a good place for a bonsai tree!

  14. I think you're thinking about that support bar the wrong way, Lisa. It doesn't mean you have to stand up--it just means that you need to buy a recliner to LOUNGE in! That way you can look below the dreaded bar... ;)

Lovely garden. Like Cheryl, I am charmed... :)

  15. The Casa looks sooo inviting Lisa. I'm not sure something like that would work in my garden...probably too hot...I'll have to think about it.
Lovelly garden, good too see that Luna is doing good. How is her heart condition.

  16. It's still such a lovely spot Lisa. Thanks for the recommendation though. If/when we put a gazebo where our pool is now, that is definitely something I'll remember. :c)

  17. What a lovely peaceful niche you have created!

I always enjoy viewing your garden, it looks lush and well tended....happy!

  18. Support bars or not, this gives you a beautiful view of your garden, Lisa. And all the little touches you've put inside certainly make it inviting. I would gladly sit here and share a cup of tea with you!

  19. It looks very inviting. Maybe you could elevate your seating areas so that your line of vision would be above the bars? Your borders look great. What a peaceful view to have!

  21. I love your white fence. When you get tired of it, I'll come and take it off your hands;) I think your little garden casa is perfect. Have you slept out there. I would enjoy that.

  22. Lisa, Your casa is wonderful and I would love to join you there for coffee! Thank you for the peak into your garden. It's stellar...now I must get out into my own and weed and edit. I feel like Maynard G Krebs from the Dobie Gillis~"Work?!". But substitute Weed?!

  23. Oh I would love to sit bug free and enjoy your garden! It looks beautiful!

  24. Kim, I did have a lounge chair in there at first. I had to take it out and place more seating in too often so I took it out. Maybe I should reconsider.

Jim, I am trying the topiaried ivy to see if I can at least keep that alive before I try a bonsai tree. Maybe someday...

Gintonio, thanks for asking about Luna. She is doing ok. This summer heat seems to be making her a little slower than normal. At least I hope it is the heat affecting her.

  25. Phillip, perhaps a tall bistro table and chairs would be the answer.

  26. Marnie, I haven't slept out there before. Hmmmmm I might have to try that some time.

Gail, weeds?? What are they? Something like all the crab grass and dandelions and tree seedlings and.... that is growing amongst my flowers?? If I pull them all, would I still be needed in the garden?? tee hee...

  27. What a beautiful spot to sit and journal Lisa. I see Luna is enjoying the warm weather too :-)

  28. I could really use one of those. It looks like a cool, peaceful retreat, even with distracting bars. Have you considered growing some climbing thing on a trellis in front of the white fence? That would help camoflage it . Is Luna not allowed inside the Casa?

  29. Hi Lisa, I love your casa, bars and all. The candlelabra is a classy touch too! I have decided support bars are designed by tall men who can see above them. I am totally with you on the shorter bars for those of us with less body, let alone less legs! And believe me when I say, I would love to join you for tea there too. :-)

Thank you for the guided grand tour of the Casa.

  33. Oh Lisa, your yard is so pretty! It was fun to see Luna out there too.
Do you have your "casa" anchored to the ground? or what keeps it from blowing away in the wind? (maybe your backyard isn't quite as windy as mine....)

  34. I had not seen the support bars, I was just admiring your garden :-)
    Maybe because I'm smaller? :-)
I've tried to email you to thank you for your kind comments on my blogs, but as usual, I get bounced back... frustrating. :-(

  35. Lisa, lovely casa.
In and out, thanks for sharing the views. So cozy and I love its decoration, looks beautiful and so romantic!
I would love to sit by and have some quite time reading and painting!
Hey...the last picture, your doggie is relaxing in the green Lisa:)

  36. What a beautiful place to sit and reflect! And protection from the mosquitoes is crucial right now, isn't it? They're pretty bad here, and I imagine it's because of all the rain we've been having right along.

    Your garden is beautiful, Lisa!
