Skywatch Friday - Round barn

While out looking for a plein air sketching opportunity the clouds kept distracting me. What a neat old barn we found. Still being used by evidence of cows in the pasture around it.

Happy weekend to you skywatchers out there. For more Skywatch Friday post go here.

Cool barn. Makes a really great picture.

As long as it's cows you found, and not cow pies, that's good! :) Did you end up drawing the barn, then?

Very few of these round barns still exist; you were very lucky to find this one, Lisa! One of the original round barns around here was turned into a restaurant some years ago--a fun place to dine.

Great sky, and I love the barn. Is that considered a 'round' barn? There are a few around here. Wonderful.

A one hundred and one year old farm! Lisa the barn is wonderful...I don't think I've actually seen one just photos. Love the sky. gail

What fun to come across such a wonderful barn. Will we see the sketches? I noticed the date on the barn and it was built in the same era as the labor issues I wrote about. Life was hard for farm workers, too; but there were advantages to living in the country at least.

Yes Monica, I did draw the barn.
I will probably post it on my other blog.

Rose, lets do lunch there sometime.

Nan, yes, I call this a round barn. No corners here. A wonderfully kept barn.

ELW, I hadn't thought about the dates coninciding. You are right. Farmers often raised their own workers. :/ I will probably post my sketches this weekend on Artsy.

Great sky Lisa, but I must admit that I like the pic of the barn even more. It's so unlike any barns we have here. Beautiful building!

BTW I've been admiring your artwork at Frances's blog. ;-)

It looks great against the sky. I wonder what a round barn looks like inside?

Lisa at Greenbow said...

Fourwinds, I have only been inside one round barn (not this one) I was a little disappointed to find that it looked like most other barns with stalls built for livestock, tack rooms. You forget you are in a round barn when inside. I don't know what I expected but not the feel of a regular barn since the outside is so curious.

That barn is a gem! There used to be a round barn near here, but it got moved to make way for development (boo!).

That barn is wonderful, and it's in such good repair.
We used to see one that shape on the drive over to Hubby's sister's house, but when we went to the family picnic we noticed it had been torn down. How sad.
We see old cars around here too, and like you, I love them. I'm always taking photos of them :)
Those are some beauties.
You found lots of things to photograph on your trip to the birding area. Love that bee shot! Sorry I don't know the name of your wildflower.

Great sky, and I love that barn. We have one similar close to me in Wimberley, Texas. They have turned it into an Antique Store...great place to poke around on a Saturday afternoon.

Never photographed the skies.
Can be so interesting and mysterious. Maybe I should.

I love the history of the round barns. This one looks as if it has been well cared for. As we travela bout the country I sometimes see them. I think I saw a couple in Wisconsin.
A wonderful sky too!

A few of those old barns left around here. Years ago I saw a book of old round barns. Wonderful photos. Wouldn't it be fun to set off across the country taking pictures of round barns?

Happy Summer dear friend. I recently took some photos of a similar barn and was told it is of Amish design.

Harvest time in my neck of the woods so stop by sometime to see what is canning.

That barn is the best! We lived near an old German farm when I was growing up. Those round barns are extremely cool.
