Fall Color

We finally have some color in the trees around here.  I was beginning to think we would go from green to brown to nothing.  On our way to the park for a walk we saw a beautiful sight.  The trees along the river are coloring up nicely.  As you see the trees in the fore front are still green. The trees on the Il side of the river are colored. Hmmmm.

I know I have shown you this area before when the flood waters were receding.  It is a low lying area right by the river. This is why the farmers haven't been able to get their soy beans out of the field just yet.  We have had so much rain. It sure makes for a pretty picture.

At home I found a nice little surprise.  The spirea bush has several little blooms on it. The poor thing must be confused with first frost then some warm spring-like weather.

The color of the spirea leaves is just beautiful. The small leaves seem so delicate compared to the large tree leaves.

I hope everyone is having a wonderful week and you are able to get out and do a little leaf peeping.

  1. I love the photo of the field with the trees in the background. We finally got some color on our maple trees and along comes a storm and it's all gone. Hope your fall colors last a while so you can enjoy them.

  2. What a pretty day you had.
Around here the majority of soybeans are still in the field too, due to our exceptionally wet October weather. It's going to be a tough year for the farmers.

  4. Our fall color never did come. It was mild up until an arctic front moved down and dropped temps to -11C overnight. The leaves turned green brown and dropped ... no brilliant yellows this year.

  7. Bonus! I love when shrubs are remontant, it's so fun. It's good you finally got some fall color. We're past peak here, but it's still raining. Nearly every day. I'm sick of it.

  8. You have lots of wonderful colors this fall. We were cold early on, and now are having highs in the 50s. I have the week off, but have had appointments the last couple afternoons, and had a headache when I got home today. Maybe tomorrow I'll be able to get a bit done outside. I also need to do some housework.

  9. Lisa, the views of the river trees and field ar gorgeous! What wonderful colors. I don't think I've seen a spirea blooming when it's leaves have turned-now that is lovely.

Hope it's nice this weekend so we can enjoy your color. See you soon. :)

  12. Oh all so beautiful, Lisa! The trees, the soybean rows, and especially the little out of season Spiraea. Is that a bridal wreath one? The flower looks like it.

  14. This October has been very beautiful in my neck of the woods.
    The poor spirea is confused....
spring and autumn all at once.
I really love the photograph of the soybean field in such a golden brown. I have noticed as we drive about in the countryside how many soybean fields are still unharvested. It has been a wet autumn here too.
So happy you are finally getting color.
    Happy Halloween,
    Sherry

  15. Fall is looking beautiful for you Lisa. I remember this area from the floods. They were devastating to farmers. Now more rain! That little bitty spirea flower is precious against the deep red. We are finally having some fall color with our excessive rain! gail

  18. The crepe myrtles might get red-orange but we don't have many trees that change color here - it's cool to see these fields backed by colorful hills.

Someone else might have missed the spiraea blooming with red leaves but not your artist's eye for detail!

  19. You're right, dear Lisa, actually it is the perfect time for "leaf peeping", also here. Every autumn we are spoilt with this great spectacle, all the beautiful colours. However, the trees in our garden already start to lose their leaves. Luckily we still have wonderful sunshine and can enjoy the golden October.
    Have a good time!
