Garden Bloggers Blooom Day

Blooms here at Greenbow are few and far between this time of year. I am happy to find that the Earth Star in my terrarium has gone into it spring time blush. I have always loved seeing these plants growing in the big botanical gardens and had no luck with them until I stuck this one into this terrarium. It has grown so bit that I am afraid that it needs to be moved out. Out to where I just don't know. I do so enjoy its salmon colored "bloom" each spring. If I happen to not notice when the days become a little longer it sure tells me because it seems to capture some of the colors of the sunsets. My only other bloom are the Snowdrops out front. They continue on blooming. They are so rewarding to find out in the still cold and mostly frozen garden.
For more Blooms on this cold winter day go to Carol's May Dreams Gardens.

  1. Hiya

Thought it was a ring of ice at first :-)
We are now so conditioned to things frozen over here.
Thank goodness for snowdrops to help us hold the faith for a warmer season.

  2. Hi Lisa, *only other blooms are snowdrops*, as though they are not significant! I think they are divine! What tough customers, blooming in the very cold still wintry temps. I just love them, and love that you have so many now too! The Cryptanthus looks a little crowded in your terrarium, maybe a large bowl? I put mine outside in the shade during summer, with the orchids and barely remember to water them and they do fine. The one you have is my favorite pinky color, like a flower! :-)

  3. At least you have snowdrops, instead of just one like mine. Thanks for sharing them with us, and I do like that terrarium plant.

  4. The earth star is so unusual, Lisa. I like the way it changes color. Don't dismiss those snowdrops; as Frances says, anything that tough is welcome in the garden this time of year. I wish I had some blooming here--I had every intention of planting some, but then forgot last fall.

  5. Lisa,

Oh to have your, how did you say it...'my only other blooms are" snowdrops. Here after known as Lisa's Only Snowdrops! Forgive my envy; every spring I long for them and every summer forget to order them!

I love your terrarium. That may be a perfect way to have indoor plants protected from Cat King Coal!

    Have a sweet day!

  14. I love the terrarium with the earth star in it. Is the earth star a bromeliad? It looks similar to a few that I have. I'd like to try making a terrarium for the house someday.

  23. Snow drops are a wonderful flower. They would be a blessing indeed, any time of the year, but to come up through the snow, and bring the promise of spring...they are a doubled gift.

  24. Lisa,
I just love the colors in your Earth Star. The snowdrops are wonderful, and remind me that I am going to have to do a much better job with my bulb order next fall...
    Happy Bloom Day!

  25. Love the earthstar, Lisa, but the snowdrops are the best...instant happy-making for me, as I've burbled in other sites today. Never met a snowdrop I didn't adore...

  26. Lisa - that Earth Star is so pretty -- I think you just need to find it a bigger terrarium! And I love the snowdrops -- I think some gardeners have grown them here, but they are not common. They are so precious popping up in the cold of winter.

  27. Your Earth Star is very unusual, Lisa. How nice to have a plant that reminds you of sunsets and lengthening days!
I'm picturing you down on the cold ground taking that photo of your dear little snowdrops. Lucky you to have them! :)

  28. Thanks for stopping by my blog-you've got a pretty exotic thing going on with that earth star-very tropical looking!

Yay for snowdrops! I always wanted some of those when I lived in Nebraska but never got around to it...or maybe I did and they never came up. I can't remember. Either way, I never got any, so glad that others are!

  30. Dear Lisa,
    The snowdrops are darlings!
I must get outside and poke around...I might have a couple in bloom in back. I remember I planted some!
My beds are full of leaves. It was 20 degrees last night and my daytime highs have only been in the low 30's.
    Looking forward to Spring!

  34. beautiful snow drops Lisa! One of these years I'll get on the stick and plant some bulbs in the fall!

  35. I think you have two beauties on bloom day Lisa. The Earth Star is really gorgeous, reminds me of a starfish, a little. and add me to the list of people who admire your snow drops. If I had them blooming right now (in the garden) I'd be over the moon! Happy (belated) bloom day. :-)

  36. I must tell you all I didn't mean to pooh pooh my little stand of Snowdrops. I love them dearly. I seem to say and type just when I shouldn't. Also I had in the previous post mentioned them. So I guess I was thinking that they were old news.

Frances, I am a little worried about what to do with my Cryptanthus. I have never had luck with one growing outside of a terrarium. It sits in the same window year round.

Phillip, I was not on the ground but I was in a stooped position. My camera was about on the ground. I have a camera that has a viewer that swivels. So I can position my camera in strange positions and get shots.

  37. Thanks for sharing these. I feel the urge to paint more flowers:)

  38. Lisa that first photo is so cool. A perfect fit. I'd try a terrarium but the cats would just have lots of glass to break.

  39. My grandmother taught me about terrariums...she always had one going; she used to take me through woods to get moss, and fern, plants w/berrries, etc...it was great fun. The plant you have in there is going to need a 10 gallon-size fish tank/aquarium soon!!! It is definitely an interesting specimen. Snowdrops are showing up everywhere. I wish I had some...I have never planted them. I'm going to change that, come fall!

  40. I want my snowdrops to come up and bloom! Nothing yet, though. Kind of impatient, aren't I?
