Garden Bloggers Blooom Day
Blooms here at Greenbow are few and far between this time of year. I am happy to find that the Earth Star in my terrarium has gone into it spring time blush. I have always loved seeing these plants growing in the big botanical gardens and had no luck with them until I stuck this one into this terrarium. It has grown so bit that I am afraid that it needs to be moved out. Out to where I just don't know. I do so enjoy its salmon colored "bloom" each spring. If I happen to not notice when the days become a little longer it sure tells me because it seems to capture some of the colors of the sunsets.
My only other bloom are the Snowdrops out front. They continue on blooming. They are so rewarding to find out in the still cold and mostly frozen garden.

Hi Lisa, *only other blooms are snowdrops*, as though they are not significant! I think they are divine! What tough customers, blooming in the very cold still wintry temps. I just love them, and love that you have so many now too! The Cryptanthus looks a little crowded in your terrarium, maybe a large bowl? I put mine outside in the shade during summer, with the orchids and barely remember to water them and they do fine. The one you have is my favorite pinky color, like a flower! :-)

The earth star is so unusual, Lisa. I like the way it changes color. Don't dismiss those snowdrops; as Frances says, anything that tough is welcome in the garden this time of year. I wish I had some blooming here--I had every intention of planting some, but then forgot last fall.

ReplyDeleteOh to have your, how did you say it...'my only other blooms are" snowdrops. Here after known as Lisa's Only Snowdrops! Forgive my envy; every spring I long for them and every summer forget to order them!
I love your terrarium. That may be a perfect way to have indoor plants protected from Cat King Coal!

Lisa, the Earth Star is such a pretty plant and reall seems to like her home. Snowdrops! Again I am lamenting not getting any planted last fall. At least you can see spring is on it's way. :}

the melt has started though...it won't be long.
Snow drops are a wonderful flower. They would be a blessing indeed, any time of the year, but to come up through the snow, and bring the promise of spring...they are a doubled gift.

ReplyDeleteLisa - that Earth Star is so pretty -- I think you just need to find it a bigger terrarium! And I love the snowdrops -- I think some gardeners have grown them here, but they are not common. They are so precious popping up in the cold of winter.

ReplyDeleteYay for snowdrops! I always wanted some of those when I lived in Nebraska but never got around to it...or maybe I did and they never came up. I can't remember. Either way, I never got any, so glad that others are!

My beds are full of leaves. It was 20 degrees last night and my daytime highs have only been in the low 30's.

ReplyDeleteI must tell you all I didn't mean to pooh pooh my little stand of Snowdrops. I love them dearly. I seem to say and type just when I shouldn't. Also I had in the previous post mentioned them. So I guess I was thinking that they were old news.
ReplyDeleteFrances, I am a little worried about what to do with my Cryptanthus. I have never had luck with one growing outside of a terrarium. It sits in the same window year round.
Phillip, I was not on the ground but I was in a stooped position. My camera was about on the ground. I have a camera that has a viewer that swivels. So I can position my camera in strange positions and get shots.

My grandmother taught me about terrariums...she always had one going; she used to take me through woods to get moss, and fern, plants w/berrries, etc...it was great fun. The plant you have in there is going to need a 10 gallon-size fish tank/aquarium soon!!! It is definitely an interesting specimen. Snowdrops are showing up everywhere. I wish I had some...I have never planted them. I'm going to change that, come fall!
